The neck and shoulders are the most common areas of the body to suffer from stiffness and tension. Stress and tension build up resulting in stiff necks, aching shoulders and headaches. Desk jobs, long working hours and incorrect posture and sitting position may all add to a painful neck and shoulders.
Your neck contains bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles and nerves, any of which can hurt. Neck pain also may come from regions near your neck, such as your head and shoulders. The chest muscles shorten and contract, causing the muscles in the upper back to become overstretched. This results in rounded shoulders and tight, inflexible muscles in the neck and upper back.
A Neck and shoulder massage is primarily done to relieve the tension and stress around the neck and shoulder area. Stretching and relaxing the chest muscles, along with kneading the shoulders can help in reducing pain in the neck and shoulders.
